We recently installed these as two separate beds, as our kids are still a bit young for bunk beds. Instructions weren't great, but not awful either. Hardware quality is so-so and they could be labeled better. Don't be like me and use the wrong screws when attaching the side rails with the barrel bolts (woops!); it's a pain to take them out and re-do. Having learned from my mistake on the first bed, the second one went much smoother and I assembled it alone, as a pretty small woman, in just under an hour. I did use a power drill for the support slats, but otherwise stuck with the annoying Allen wrench it came with for the rest. Tip: when attaching the side rails, use something about as high as the rails are (such as an ottoman or stacks of books) to prop the rails up while you screw them into the head/footboards. I can't comment on how they'd be as bunk beds, but separately, they are sturdy, quiet, and are great for my Teo young children. I'm hopeful we'll get a good 10 years out of them, if not longer. Heirloom-quality? Probably not. But a great value and a good solution for a kids room they'll eventually move out of.I was surprised , but delighted to see the quality of these bunk beds. My son put them together in a couple of hours. I got the cherry color and it's very attractive. I see no problem with the slats as someone said that some of the slats broke. These beds are not for anyone over 200 lbs. The mattress I used is a bed in a box, so you have to count that weight, about 50 lbs. Additionally , I tried getting a gently used bunk set, but the price was in line with this set. Would highly recomend. My wife and I bought a metal frame bunk bed (twin over full that could be converted into a futon) about a year ago from a different company. The metal material used to make the bottom bunk frame buckled after the first day from lack of proper support and the heat (we live in Florida and it was particularly hot that day).We originally wanted a wooden frame bunk bed at the time (that's what I grew up with myself and loved it), but that was all we could afford, so we did what we could to keep the frame supported and it worked for a year or so.Then we found this bunk bed, perfect pricing for our budget and looked to be extremely sturdy wood construction material. When we received it on our front porch, the box looked like it had been through some trouble during shipping and I was worried about parts being broken or missing (not the fault of the company, but just something that happens in delivery sometimes). But I much to my happiness, when I opened the packaging EVERYTHING was in there and no damage or missing parts at all. The wood looked and felt incredibly solid (not particle board like you see in most furniture these days).Setting out to put it together after a long workweek (this was late Friday night) and my wife and I were tired, but determined. The instructions were very clear but in my tired hastiness I missed a step and we ended up having to take some parts off and put them back in their proper place again; mainly the railing sides due to the openings for attaching the ladder to the frame. This of course was completely MY error. That being said, when we finally got it together, my children (two boys, 6 and 10) loved it (as well as our cat who thinks it's as much hers as it is my 6 year olds, lol). It's easily one of the nicest piece of furniture we own now, and couldn't recommend it more to anyone on the fence about purchasing it! You WILL NOT be dissappointed! The bunk bed is easy to assemble, all hardware and tool included except for a phillips head screw driver for the cross support boards to hold the mattress up. (I used my drill for that) Unless you are planning to use a thick mattress or box spring, you will need to get a few 1 x 4's to add support for a thinner mattress.A very sturdy and top quality bunk bed. It's a beautiful and very solid bunk bed set. It took me about two hours to fully assemble by myself. A helper would have been a lot better. Pay attention to the side holes for the ladder, so that you have them together on the same side.I am pleased with my purchase! The bunk bed was delivered on time. Assembly wasn't difficult, but be sure to be familiar with the parts and the diagram. I did have a couple of minor flaws but they were not gamechangers for me; I observed a couple of scars made during manufacture and a warped board for the headboard.I do recommend putting a thing piece of plywood or paneling over the wood mattress supports to prevent possible overloading a single board. Or add a two or more boards for extra support. The screws supplied for the two little vertical bars that tie together the middle of the safety rails on the top bunk are too short. I had to buy #8 x 1-1/2 inch screws to properly fasten those two parts. See picture. The Allen/hex key that comes with the kit is rubbish and started to strip out some of the screw heads. Fortunately I had a proper 3mm one that saved the day.The wood had one saw mark and some other dings and scratches. I was mostly able to hide these imperfections by making those pieces face the wall. I recommend the plain unstained/natural look because these imperfections are less noticeable. In my opinion, the beds need more cross slats to support the mattress. They didn't break, but the mattress did sag between slats. So I bought more for about $50 from the Wood to the World store on Amazon, product title "Bed Slats Solid Pine Wood Slats Twin Bed Mattress Support Wooden Slats 39 in Long x 2.75 in Wide x 0.65 in Depth Pack of 13 Count Single Bed Replacement Parts Custom Size Cutting Service (Twin 39 in)". They look identical and came with screws. I probably could have used shorter than 39 inch slats, but I got them a little long and cut them myself.Good product looks great very sturdyValue for money is poor. Main parts are made of real wood while some parts like the mattress supporting slats are made of lighter woods. By night 1, with no hourseplaying going on whatsoever, two slats broke so I had to go out buy similar thickness wood, get them professionally cut and replace the cheaper slats . While it will take at least 2 hours to set up, it came with all the parts and a good set of instructions to follow. Initially it was kind of confusing to follow but once we got the hang of it, it was a breeze to setup the rest of the bed. Two people needed to set this up. Delivery was under a week so less than the advertised timeframe for delivery. Pain job is good, seems like inside parts had one coat, outside parts two coats. It would be nice for two coats all around. My 10 yrs old daughter is normal height and she barely can sit-up but that's okay I guess. One rail guard piece arrived with a crack in it and it looks like the manufacture tried to bond/fix it - it will do for now but I wonder if it will crack some more later. I am confident the remaining supporting slats will crack in the future so I bought some spare parts incase.Super dissapointing! The slats are complete garbage and both beds had a broken slat in the middle within a week. There aren't enough slats to distrubute the weight let alone someone climbing into the bed. I would NOT trust this to be safe as a bunk bed, DO NOT USE THIS BED AS A BUNK BED! The slats are incredibly flimsy and dangerous. Really dissapointed with this purchase and shocked that it is sold as a bunk bed option.I'm very impressed with the quality and sturdiness of the bed. It was very easy to put together. Took about 1.5-2 hours (per bed). We bought two, and it's nice to have the area underneath for the kids to play. I attached a photo for a better visualization of how tall it is under there. It's not very tall (which is what we wanted since our kids are still quite little) but it's a nice size for them to sit under and play and fits a 2x3 cube shelf nicely for storage. The instructions for building we're really easy to follow as well. Everything was included to build these beds except for one part you need a screw driver and a measuring tape which wasn't provided. But you mainly put it together with an Allen wrench, and 2 are provided with the hard ware. Such a great bed for a great price! The bed didn't come enough wood pieces going across the frame it came with 7 pieces for each bed the gap was too big . I went to home depot and got more wood they cut the pieces for me i got 7 more pieces for each bed. . It is more safer now . The rest of the bed is great .I bought this bed when it was 35%-40% off I can't remember, but the price was great. It is solid would and it looks just as the pics shows. My biggest complaint is, out of the 2 beds that can be made. 1 full bed has damaged boards. I mean each board has a dent of varying sizes. That means, like 11 boards out of 22 have a noticeable ding in it. But the price I paid I can repair it and still be ahead . Which sucks for me. I have more pictures, but found it redundant to post all.
